ECCMA ISO 8000 Data Quality Assessment

The ECCMA ISO 8000 Data Quality Assessment (eDQA) is a unique opportunity, it offers an independent and authoritative evaluation of your data’s quality, laying the foundation for successful data governance.

Objectives

Provide an analysis of current data quality and recommend changes to data governance policies to maintain ISO 8000 quality data.

Includes

-Development of an initial corporate dictionary as a subset of the ECCMA Open Technical Dictionary (eOTD)
-Development of an initial library of data requirements as a subset of the ECCMA Data Requirement Registry (eDRR) including initial rules for creating consistent item names and descriptions
-Data validation plan
-Data governance policies required to maintain ISO 8000 quality data
-Supplier master mapped to ECCMA Shared Organization Master (eSOM)
-Item master mapped to ECCMA Shared Material Master (eSMM)

The objective is to define the quantity and quality of the source data and provide a framework for measuring the quality of the data. The ECCMA ISO 8000 Data Quality Assessment helps companies focus on those items that matter most, saving precious time and money in the Data Governance improvement efforts.

Vendor and item master data is analyzed and together with its use in the previous three years procurement transactions. Active vendors are identified as well as regularly purchased indirect maintenance, repair and operation (MRO) items.

Data requirements are established for regularly purchased items (direct and indirect) to include items purchased without reference to the item master, and rules are established for rendering item names and purchase order descriptions.

Basic Principles

In the context of data used to identify or describe materials or services, the quality of a master data record is determined by comparing the record to a stated requirement for the master data, that defines the mandatory and optional data elements and data types or constraints required to unambiguously identify and describe the item.

Data requirements are function specific. Data elements required to place a successful purchase order with the current supplier may be different from the data elements required for the allocation of a spend analysis classification or insufficient to request competitive quotations from other suppliers for functionally equivalent or competitive items.

In order for a data record to be compared to a data requirement, the definitions of the data elements used in both, the data record and the data requirement must be consistent.

ECCMA employs both the ISO 22745 and ISO 8000 international standards within the ISO 8000 Data Quality Assessment process.
