Cataloging at Source (C@S) enables a buyer to obtain authoritative master data from manufacturers/suppliers for direct inclusion in their internal approved item catalog. In this 1 hour Webinar, we explore the practice and origins of Cataloging at Source (C@S) , and its power to transform ERP/MDM system data quality and interoperability.
C@S is the reliable, accurate and least-cost method for buyers to obtain system-ready technical specification data that arrives ERP-ready and fit-for-purpose, direct from its authoritative source.
Designed to improve the speed and simplicity of the product sourcing/procurement process, and cut the cost of master data management, C@S captures and structures the technical specification data of materials and services at its point of origin (the data owner: manufacturer or supplier), such that a buyer avoids the need for intermediate data cleansing or cataloging services to structure, enhance, or de-duplicate records.
C@S and the NATO Codification System, developed for military logistics in the 1950s, were a central part of the foundation for ISO 8000 standards for data quality and interoperability. NATO then, as now, needed to accurately identify items and suppliers by formatting technical specifications as an unambiguous set of data; Poland’s National Codification Bureau (NCB) took the efficiency and effectiveness of this effort farther by going straight to the source (supplier or manufacturer) for data verification, hence C@S. ISO 8000 developed parts to incorporate the insights of these efforts and has continued to expand data quality standardization, improving cataloging including its AI readiness.
Join Peter Benson and Marek Dalkowski, both respected data professionals with decades of experience between them, on a fascinating journey that bridges 1950s military logistics, through to Poland’s NCB’s implementation of C@S and so to master data excellence in 2025!
