ECCMA Natural Location Identifier eNLI

Many delivery services and location-based applications already rely on GPS coordinates for pinpoint accuracy. ISO 8000 standards for data quality take this a step further through ISO 8000-118.

ISO 8000-118, the Natural Location Identifier (NLI), defines any physical location on earth including inside a building. It defines a standardized method for converting GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude) and floor/elevation information into a concise 14-character string for floor information and 15-character string for elevation (in meters) information—and back again. This provides a precise, structured, and efficient way to manage location-based data, offering a smarter alternative to traditional addressing systems.

The NLI is a “natural” identifier so you do not need to pay a license fee to get one and you do not need to retrieve location information from a registry, the location is encoded in the NLI itself. eNLI applies ISO 8000-118 for this purpose.

Do you need to identify locations worldwide with a public domain identifier?

  • Encode a specific location.

  • Decode a eNLI identifier.

  • Display eNLI location in your mapping application.

  • Supports ISO 8000-115 for part numbers.
